The agricultural department of the Ryazan region is summing up the results of the international conference "Sugar Market of the CIS Countries 2025", which took place on April 10 in Moscow and was organized by the Eurasian Sugar Association.
The event presented forecasts for sugar production and exports in the CIS. According to the head of the association Andrey Bodin, in 2025, beet sugar production in the CIS countries is expected to increase by 1% to 7.55 million tons, compared to 7.49 million tons in 2024. Last year, the growth was 2% due to an increase in sown areas by 9% to 1.337 million hectares, and in 2025, they will remain at approximately the same level — 1.335 million hectares.
In Russia, on the contrary, sugar production in the season of 2024–2025 will decrease to 6.3 million tons compared to 6.833 million tons in the previous season. Areas dedicated to beets will also decrease in 2025 — to 1.127 million hectares compared to 1.168 million hectares in 2024. At the same time, sugar exports from Russia in 2024 reached 990 thousand tons, which is 30% more than in 2023, and close to the record of 2019–2020 (1.5 million tons). However, in 2025, shipments are projected at the level of 850 thousand tons. The main destinations remain the CIS countries.
Conference participants paid special attention to the growth of beet raw sugar production within the CIS. In 2024, its volume reached 260 thousand tons compared to 45 thousand tons the previous year, and the forecast for 2025 is 550 thousand tons. The region's need for raw material is estimated at 700 thousand tons, with a large part being processed in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
The conference also discussed commodity trading: the volume of sugar trading on the National Commodity Exchange in 2024 amounted to 369 thousand tons, which is almost a third more than in 2023 (279 thousand tons). It was also noted an overall increase in the population of the CIS countries by 1.4 million people, mainly due to the states of Central Asia, which contributes to the increase in sugar consumption in the region.
