From January to April of this year, the Russian Federation supplied rapeseed oil to the Chinese market in the amount of $478.2 million, which exceeds last year's delivery volumes by 29%. This information is contained in the materials of the State Customs Administration of China.
According to the report, Russia maintains a leading position in this market with a significant lead over Canada, which ranks second in terms of exports at $134.2 million, and Belarus, with a result of $144 million. In total, China imported rapeseed oil from 16 countries during this period.
The total amount of oil deliveries from Russia in April increased to $134.9 million, while in April of 2024, it was $102 million.
At the same time, the volume of rapeseed exports from Russia to China from January to April decreased by 3.4 times, dropping to $13.1 million from $43.9 million the year before, and in April to $3.1 million from $10.2 million, respectively. In March of this year, rapeseed exports amounted to $3.8 million.
During this period, six countries supplied rapeseed to China, with the largest volumes coming from Canada (amounting to $695 million). Russia ranks third after Mongolia (at $29.2 million).
It is worth noting that since September 2024, rapeseed exports from Russia have been restricted by an import duty of 30%, but not less than 165 euros per ton. This mechanism was introduced instead of the export ban on rapeseed that was in effect until then. This increased duty will be valid until August 31, 2026.
In addition, the Russian government has set a tariff quota for the export of rapeseed grown in the Irkutsk region until August 31, 2025, in the amount of 100 thousand tons. Exports within the quota are subject to a basic duty of 6.5%, but not less than 11.4 euros per ton. A similar restriction applies to almost 23.2 thousand tons of rapeseed grown in the Zabaykalsky Krai.
For the first time, the ban on rapeseed exports from Russia was introduced from April 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022, to ensure the supply of raw materials to the processing industry, after which this regime was regularly extended.
