This year, the administration of the Saratov region has addressed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation requesting the exclusion of the extensive population of saigas inhabiting the Volga-Ural region from the list of species included in the Red Book of Russia.

This issue was considered at the July meeting of the specialized expert commission of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, which decided to approve the request to exclude the mentioned population of saigas from the Red Book. At the same time, it should be noted that the population of saigas in the North-Western Pre-Caspian region, which permanently inhabits the country's territory, will remain under protection.

In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, the corresponding resolution was adopted at the meeting of the interdepartmental commission for maintaining the Red Book of the Saratov region.

Currently, the regional department for natural resources and ecology is developing the necessary regulatory acts that will introduce changes to the list of animals included in the Red Book of the Saratov region.

The exclusion of the Volga-Ural saigas from the Red Book will allow regulating their population in the long term to the established level.
