Around two-thirds of all seeds used in Russian agriculture are produced domestically. The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, expressed his intention to achieve a 75% share of domestic seed producers within eight years.
He noted the need to continue improving the situation. Farmers will have to increase the use of local seeds, which currently account for nearly 66% of the total volume. Mishustin is quoted by TASS news agency as saying: "The President has set a goal to reach a 75% self-sufficiency level among agricultural producers by 2030."
The Prime Minister assured that production will increase, especially given the current situation. He reminded that thirty-two seed breeding research centers and three breeding centers have already been established with state support. "By the President's instructions, this year we will allocate an additional not less than 5 billion rubles for them. This will help meet the needs of farmers," he commented.
Mishustin also added that the government maintains and expands the preferential lending program to provide farmers with funds for current operations and investments. "Over 340 billion rubles have been allocated for the development of the agro-industrial and fisheries complexes. These measures are already yielding real results, helping to meet the needs of Russian consumers for products," Mishustin concluded.
