It is projected that the Russian Federation will be able to export from 200 to 250 thousand tons of wheat flour to China by 2030, equivalent to a sum of 80-100 million US dollars. According to information provided by the "Agroexport" center at the Ministry of Agriculture, Russia already became the leader in wheat flour exports to China in 2022, sending 31 thousand tons of product. In 2023, the volume of exports increased by more than 4.5 times to reach 143 thousand tons, accounting for 65.7% of the total wheat flour imports to China.
Data from the General Administration of Customs of China shows that in 2023, the value of imported flour from Russia amounted to 56.5 million US dollars.
In the first half of the current year, China imported wheat and rye-wheat flour from Russia totaling 11.1 million US dollars, which is 35.7% less than the same period last year (17.3 million US dollars). As a result, China yielded the first place to Japan in this market, with deliveries totaling 13.4 million US dollars.
According to "Agroexport," there is a growing demand in China for specialized types of flour. In addition to regular flour, flour for making noodles, baking, and steamed buns is becoming popular. Furthermore, the supply of flour from niche crops, such as quinoa, amaranth, and lentils, is gaining increasing interest.
The analysis indicates that the majority of wheat flour in China is sold in large packages, weighing 5 kg and above. However, the report notes a growing demand for flour in small packaging (1 kg or less), especially for specialized and high-quality types of flour.
