According to the report of the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), in the second half of September of the current year, sugar production in the Center-South region of Brazil reached 1.7 million tons. This 27.32% decrease compared to last year is due to the halt in operations of some sugar mills caused by delays in sugarcane deliveries due to heavy rains, as reported by Sojuzrossahar.
The total sugar production in Brazil since the beginning of the 2022/23 season (April-March) amounted to 26.33 million tons, which is 9.9% less than the same period of the previous year.
According to the report from the Foreign Trade Department (Secex) of the Brazilian Ministry of Economy, sugar exports from Brazil in September of the current year increased by 21% compared to last year, reaching 3.08 million tons. It is expected that the total sugar export volume from Brazil in the 2022/23 season will reach 28.2 million tons, exceeding the previous season by 9%.
According to the latest forecasts by the International Sugar Organization (ISO) published in August of the current year, it is expected that sugar production in Brazil in the 2022/23 season will amount to 38.5 million tons. In the previous 2021/22 season, ISO estimated sugar production at 33.0 million tons.
