The sunflower yield forecast, published by Kazhydromet, hints at good prospects in the agriculture sector. According to the forecast, above-average yields are expected in the East Kazakhstan region, which leads in the cultivation of this crop. Pavlodar and Abai regions are expected to have an average level of yield, as reported by APK News agency.
Analysing the current agrometeorological situation, it is expected that the sunflower yield in 2025 will be close to the long-term average values. Most favorable conditions are expected in many districts, including Pavlodar and Abay regions. Particularly noteworthy is the Borodulikhinsky district of the Abay region, where a higher yield level is forecasted. Average indicators are predicted in several districts of the Kostanay region, except for some areas where there are also prospects for high performance. Deviations from average values are expected in various districts of the East Kazakhstan region, except for the Ulan district.
In May, temperatures in the sunflower cultivation areas were above average, except for the last decade. Precipitation in the second half of the month overall met or even exceeded the norm.
June was marked by elevated temperature conditions in several regions. Some areas had excess precipitation, while others were close to or below the precipitation norm.
The first decade of July showed that the temperature regime in most regions corresponded to the norm or was even 1°C higher. Precipitation also varied from normal to excess in different regions.
The beginning of the vegetation period was characterized by favorable weather conditions, which contributed to the growth and development of sunflowers. However, the first decade of July was marked by severe drought in many parts of the country due to lack of precipitation and high temperatures.
Having assessed the sunflower's condition by regions, Kazhydromet highlighted several analytical conclusions.
Forecasts for July indicate normal temperature conditions in many regions of the country, with slight deviations in specific areas. The amount of precipitation will also be variable depending on the location, which may affect the yield.
Optimal conditions for sunflower seed ripening are expected in the northern part of Kazakhstan due to moderate rainfall and acceptable air temperatures, emphasized specialists.
Kazhydromet's conclusions underscore the importance of the eastern region for sunflower production.
