In Moscow, on August 1st, the company "ProZerno" announced a new forecast for the grain harvest in Russia for the current year. According to this forecast, the total harvest will amount to 128 million tons (including new regions – 132 million tons). It is expected that the wheat harvest will be 82.5 million tons, barley – 17.2 million tons, and corn – 14.7 million tons.
The company's General Director, Vladimir Petrichenko, told Interfax that the new forecasts do not differ much from the previous ones made in June. At that time, the company predicted a grain harvest of 128.2 million tons, including 82 million tons of wheat. The forecast for barley was 17.5 million tons, and for corn – 15 million tons.
"One could say that significant changes have occurred in the intraregional picture. Although the overall numbers have changed very little," Petrichenko said.
Petrichenko noted that the forecast for southern regions was reduced by 1.5 million tons due to drought. "Taking into account the Volga regions, we can say that the losses reached 2 million tons. However, this was offset by the improvement in crop conditions and an increase in the harvest forecast in Siberia and the Urals. Thus, the losses in the south and partially in the Volga region of 2 million tons were offset by an increase of 2 million tons in the Urals," he explained. He also added that the corn harvest forecast was reduced due to the drought.
Vice Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said on Thursday that the harvest is currently taking place in 55 regions. Grain and leguminous crops have already been harvested from 40% of the areas, with almost 64 million tons harvested. "Thus, despite the complex climatic conditions of 2024, the forecast for grain harvest is 132 million tons," Patrushev said.
In 2023, Russia harvested 144.5 million tons of grain (including new regions, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, 147 million tons), including 92.8 million tons of wheat.
