According to government estimates, Egypt imported 6.8 million tons of wheat during the period of January-June this year, which is 28.3% higher than the figures for the same period in 2023 (5.3 million tons), as reported by the Asharq Business news portal.
This trend is driven by the increase in domestic demand for grain products, as well as the growth in available foreign currency reserves for freight payments over the last three months.
