Farmers in the Orenburg region will start working in the fields earlier than usual, around the last decade of March or the first decade of April, according to Interfax, citing the regional Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Food, and Processing Industry.
An early spring is expected in the Orenburg region. This is due to the warm and low-snow winter, which contributes to an earlier soil warming.
According to the preliminary structure of sown areas for 2025, in Orenburg, 2.57 million hectares are allocated for grain and leguminous crops, including 1.765 million hectares for spring crops and 1.289 million hectares for oilseed crops, including sunflower – 1.180 million hectares.
As reported earlier, winter crops for the 2025 harvest were sown on an area of 811.1 thousand hectares in the Orenburg region, with 808.6 thousand hectares occupied by grain crops. By the beginning of February, more than 90% of winter crops were in satisfactory condition.
The total sown area for the 2024 harvest was about 4.4 million hectares in Orenburg (at the level of the previous year), of which 2.734.5 thousand hectares were allocated for grain and leguminous crops.
