During the Parliamentary Assembly Council of the Union of Belarus and Russia held in Mogilev, the Head of the Administration of the Smolensk Region, Vasily Anokhin, presented a report on the work done and plans to strengthen cooperation with the regions of Belarus. Special achievements were made in the field of flax growing. This information is posted on the Telegram channel of the Governor of the Smolensk Region.
Over the first 8 months of this year, flaxseed worth $800,000 was exported from the Smolensk region to Belarusian regions, which is 26 times more than the figures for the same period last year. To continue developing cooperation in this area, the establishment of a breeding and seed center is planned.
“Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus is actively expanding in various sectors: industry, agriculture, trade, culture, science and education, tourism, housing and road construction, among others. In terms of freight turnover with our neighboring fraternal state, we are among the top five leading regions of Russia, and over the past 3 years, this turnover has increased by 32%, reaching $3.17 billion in 2023,” the statement said.
Vasily Anokhin also adds that currently, the union integration is moving to a new level, and the Smolensk region plans to become a key driver in interregional cooperation between Russia and Belarus.
