Due to the weather conditions, a series of measures have been taken to protect the plantings of agricultural crops as well as fruit and berry crops. These measures include treating the plants with substances that enhance their natural defense, making them more resistant to various adverse environmental conditions, including frost.
Currently, seasonal work is actively taking place in the farms of the Upper Volga region. Farmers are plowing, carrying out spring treatment of crops, fertilizing winter crops and perennial grasses, and sowing spring crops.
“Agriculture is an important sector of the country's economy. Timely and high-quality implementation of seasonal field work is a guarantee for the subsequent growth of agricultural production in the Upper Volga region,” believes Governor Igor Rudenya.
The measures taken by the Government of the Tver region to provide agricultural producers with material and financial resources will help the region's agro-industrial complex successfully accomplish the tasks set for the spring field work of 2025.
According to forecasts, in 2025, 112.2 thousand hectares of spring crops will be sown in the Tver region, including spring cereals and leguminous crops – 46 thousand hectares, industrial crops – 6.8 thousand hectares, potatoes – 14.8 thousand hectares, vegetables – 1.9 thousand hectares, fodder crops – 42.7 thousand hectares.
Despite the changeable weather, the pace of work in the fields exceeds that of the previous year. Currently, plowing has been completed on an area of 29.4 thousand hectares, which is 43.2% of the planned target.
The total area sown with spring crops at the moment is 26.6 thousand hectares (23.8% of the planned volume), with spring cereals and leguminous plants sown on an area of 15.7 thousand hectares (34.4%), which is 7.2% more than the previous year.
In agricultural organizations, peasant (farm) households, winter cereals for the 2025 harvest are sown on an area of 27.8 thousand hectares (23.2 thousand hectares in 2024), the cultivated land for planting amounted to 43.8 thousand hectares (37.1 thousand hectares in 2024).
It is important to note that a slight snowfall in winter did not affect the condition of winter cereal crops – no destruction was recorded. Today, farmers are applying the necessary fertilizers to stimulate their growth. Currently, winter crops have been treated with fertilizers on an area of 23.5 thousand hectares (84.5% of the planned volume) and perennial grasses – 10.1 thousand hectares (3.5%).
