Production of soft wheat in France in 2024 will be the lowest in the past 40 years, decreasing by 25%.

In 2024, soft wheat production in France is expected to be 25% lower than the previous year due to the reduction of sown areas and unfavorable weather conditions.

It is anticipated that grain harvest will be at the level of 54.8 million tons, which is 10 million tons less, and corn production at 13.75 million tons. Barley production will be below forecast.

According to Reuters, the French Ministry of Agriculture predicts that soft wheat production in the country in 2024 will be the lowest in the past 40 years. It will be 25% lower than the previous year.

This will be the result of two unfavorable factors. Firstly, the sown area will decrease to 4.2 million hectares, which is 10.8% less than in 2023. Secondly, the weather conditions have been unfavorable. Wet weather since autumn has led to delays in sowing, negatively affecting plant development and increasing the incidence of diseases.

The total grain production in France is expected to reach 54.8 million tons in 2024, which is 10 million tons less than the previous year.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also presented the first forecast for maize production. It is expected that 13.75 million tons of maize will be harvested in 2024, which is 9% more than in 2023 (12.62 million tons).

According to the ministry's data, barley production will be below the projected level. The total barley production is expected to be 10.4 million tons, which is 15% less than initially announced. However, winter barley production will decrease by 26% to 7.2 million tons, while spring barley production will increase by 25% to 3.2 million tons.
