Due to meteorological conditions, agricultural producers in the Rostov region can start spring sowing a week earlier, as reported by Olga Gorbaneva, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the region, at a meeting of the regional government on Wednesday.
Gorbaneva noted that the climatic conditions of recent years have influenced the timing of spring field work in the Rostov region. She suggests that the expected date of spring sowing may be moved forward by 5-7 days compared to normal years.
She also reminded that in the spring of 2025, it is planned to sow about 1.9 million hectares of spring crops. Of these, approximately 722 thousand hectares will be sown with spring cereals and leguminous crops, while the area under oilseeds will amount to 1.1 million hectares.
Currently, the process of preparing seed material is underway. Out of the total required quantity of 121 thousand tons of seeds of spring cereals, leguminous, and cereal crops, 105 thousand tons have already been harvested, including 6.5 thousand tons of elite seeds. All products are the result of domestic breeding.
Gorbaneva emphasized that special attention is paid to seeds of row crops. This year, it is planned to increase the area of seed plantings of domestic selection for row crops.
She added that the share of sowing seeds of domestic selection in the commercial sector of maize will increase to 68%, and for sunflower - up to 57% of the total demand volume.
Currently, 432 thousand tons of fertilizers have been procured for spring field work, which is 88% of the required amount. The missing volume will be promptly purchased from agricultural product manufacturers in the region. The readiness of the equipment is 95%, farmers are completing repairs, and spare parts are available in the required quantity.
Gorbaneva noted that in 2025, the area under sugar beets, potatoes, and open ground vegetables in the Rostov region will not decrease compared to the previous year.
