The Abyysky region of Kazakhstan is preparing for spring sowing. According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, it is planned to sow agricultural crops on an area of 753.1 thousand hectares in this region, which is 3.6 thousand hectares more than last year.
Efforts to expand sown areas continue. Thus, the area under wheat will be reduced by 4 thousand hectares to 235.0 thousand hectares.
Priority is given to highly efficient crops: the area under oilseeds will be increased by 12.7 thousand hectares (reaching 308.5 thousand hectares), the area under barley will increase by 6.3 thousand hectares, and the area under buckwheat will increase by 2.3 thousand hectares.
According to the akimats, agricultural producers in the region have already stockpiled 39.6 thousand tons of seeds. Contracts have also been signed to purchase 6.6 thousand tons of high-quality seeds and hybrids (for sunflower, corn, and other crops).
The introduction of a system for the advance subsidization of domestic fertilizer producers has significantly increased the availability of fertilizers for farmers: the fertilizer usage level in the region has reached 39% of the recommended norms, compared to the previous indicator of not exceeding 5.2%. In 2025, it is planned to use 63.6 thousand tons of fertilizers. Work is underway to conclude contracts with fertilizer producers and suppliers.
As part of the preferential agricultural work credit program "Kең dala" at 5% per annum, local farmers have submitted 157 applications totaling 8.1 billion tenge.
According to official statistics, the Abyysky region is among the top three largest producers of oilseeds in Kazakhstan and is the largest producer of sunflower seeds in the country. For example, in 2024, the region harvested 445 thousand tons of oilseeds from an area of 297 thousand hectares, while the country as a whole harvested 3.33 million tons from an area of 2.9 million hectares. The majority of the oilseed crop in the region consisted of sunflower seeds - 440 thousand tons (in total, Kazakhstan harvested 1.83 million tons).
