In the south-central region of Brazil, sugar production increased by 8.9% in the first half of July compared to the previous year, reaching 3.24 million metric tons, according to data from the industrial group UNICA published on Tuesday, as reported on Nasdaq's website.

UNICA reported that during the specified period, 48.37 million tons of sugarcane were processed, which is 4.2% more than the previous year, and the ethanol production volume reached 2.26 billion liters, an increase of 1.4%.

Sugar mills plan to increase sugar production this season to benefit from higher prices. In the current season, the sugar production volume accounted for 50.01%, while the ethanol production volume accounted for 49.99%, according to UNICA.

The increase in agricultural crops in the main production regions of Brazil contributed to the production growth in the current season. According to the industrial group, crop volume in June increased by 19.5% compared to the previous year.

"It is worth noting that young sugarcane fields play a significant role in this indicator," UNICA pointed out. "As their share decreases, the yield growth is likely to become more moderate in the coming months."
