Greetings were given by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Omsk Region, D.V. Ushakov, followed by the Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Processing Industry of the Omsk Region, N.V. Drofa. During his speech, the minister addressed key issues related to harvesting. In particular, aspects of growing domestic selection varieties, the use of modern agricultural technologies and plant protection methods, as well as the impact of weather conditions on crop quality, were discussed.
Also speaking were the General Director of the organizer of the agro-festival, S.D. Karakotov, the Chairman of the Committee on Agricultural Policy, Natural Resources, and Ecology of the regional Parliament V.I. Pushkarev, the head of Pavlogradsky District A.V. Sukhonosov, the head of the Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Department N.I. Krivoruchko, as well as scientists and producers from the Omsk Region.
Following the plenary session, a demonstration of experimental plots and equipment was held. It was noted that local producers have access to modern and highly productive domestic selection varieties, which were showcased in the fields of the agricultural enterprise “Niva”, the main venue of the agro-festival.
The seed breeding advisor of the Omsk Agricultural Research Center P.V. Popolzukhin presented information to the participants of the regional headquarters about the varieties developed in the research institution, which have a number of competitive advantages, including resistance to unfavorable climatic conditions.
Among the presented samples, both traditional and new promising varieties could be seen. These include spring soft wheat "Pamyat Azieva", "Uralosibirskaya 2", "Sigma 5", "Pamyat Suslyakova", "Omskaya 45", as well as spring hard wheat "Zhemchuzhina Sibiri" and "Omskiy Malakhit". The list also includes spring barley "Omskiy 101" and "Omskiy 102", spring oats "Irtish 33", "Sibirskiy Gerkules", soybeans "Sibriada" and "Cheremshanka", peas "Sibur 2" and "Triumf Sibiri".
“For example, the new variety of hard wheat 'Omskiy Malakhit' has high grain quality with a good gluten content, which plays an important role in the pasta industry. It is also worth noting the new barley variety 'Omskiy 102'. For many years, there were no barley varieties for brewing in the domestic assortment. And now a variety from the Omsk Agricultural Research Center has appeared, meeting all the characteristics of brewing barley,” P.V. Popolzukhin reported.
It is worth reminding that the harvesting campaign at the Omsk Agricultural Research Center is gaining momentum. After harvesting winter wheat and rye, the institution's staff began mowing and threshing perennial grasses, as well as harvesting peas. This season, it is planned to harvest spring crops on almost 34 thousand hectares of fields in Omsk and its district divisions.
