In January-July 2024, exports of grain crops through the ports of Krasnodar Krai exceeded 30 million tonnes, which is 10% more than in the same period of 2023, according to the Interfax news agency citing a report from the Novorossiysk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Grain Quality Assessment Center" (GQAC).
More than 80% of the total volume of grain exports accounts for wheat. Wheat shipments increased by 4% over the seven months and exceeded 25 million tonnes.
Grain from the ports of Krasnodar Krai is supplied to 60 countries. The main importers are Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and other countries in East and West Asia, Africa, the European Union, and North America.
"The number of countries importing Russian grain is growing. This year, wheat supplies to Ethiopia and Sri Lanka have resumed through the ports of Krasnodar Krai, as well as oats to China. Over the first seven months of this year, 341.6 thousand tonnes of wheat were sent to Ethiopia, exceeding the exports for the entire year of 2022 by 84%," the management noted.
The volume of wheat exports to Sri Lanka amounted to 309.1 thousand tonnes, which is 1.8 times more than in the whole of 2021. Wheat was not supplied to this country in 2022 and 2023.
Oat shipments to China from the ports of Kuban in the reporting period amounted to 46.6 thousand tonnes, which is twice the shipments for the entire 2022. Oats were not exported to China from Russia in 2023.
"In April 2024, Djibouti started importing wheat. By July 31 of this year, almost 154 thousand tonnes of wheat were sent to this country under the supervision of specialists from the Novorossiysk branch of the Grain Quality Assessment Center," the report said.
Krasnodar Krai is home to one of the largest ports in Russia - Novorossiysk, as well as the ports of Tuapse, Yeisk, Temryuk, Kavkaz, and Taman.
