In the Azov Sea, the blockade of some Turkish cargo ships continues due to the danger associated with drifting mines. This was reported by the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in an interview with CNN Turk.
“Some of our ships carrying various goods, including corn, sunflower seeds, and sunflower oil, are still blocked in the Azov Sea due to the risk of minefields. In total, around 22 ships are involved,” he noted.
Earlier, the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, announced an increase in readiness of mine-clearing and other specialized services due to the growing threat of drifting mines. On April 6, a third similar mine was discovered off the coast of Turkey. By the end of March, two mines had already been found near the Bosporus and at the sea border with Bulgaria. In connection with this, the Turkish Ministry of Defense has decided to put mine clearance ships and patrol aircraft on high alert,” he pointed out.
