Sergei Mitin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, organized a meeting of a working group dedicated to legislative support of domestic production of veterinary medicines, feed, and feed additives.
During the parliamentary oversight, the participants discussed the implementation of the Resolution of the Federation Council, adopted as a result of the "government hour" with the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Oksana Lut, last autumn.
Sergei Mitin noted that in its Resolution, the Federation Council proposed considering the possibility of establishing special criteria for including domestic enterprises engaged in the production of veterinary medicines in the list of system-forming organizations of the Russian economy.
“Today, the most attention is paid to the production of veterinary drugs industry by the Government of the Russian Federation, the parliament, the relevant ministry. This yields results,” emphasized the senator.
He reported that, according to the data of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, there is no shortage of vaccines for the most common animal infectious diseases in the country.
A decrease in the volume of imported foreign vaccines and an increase in the production of domestic vaccines have been noted. The share of domestic producers in the total volume of vaccines is 67.5%, and foreign ones are 32.5%.
Sergei Mitin noted that a similar situation is observed in the field of chemical and pharmaceutical products. In 2024, the share of Russian medicines reached 85.3%, while foreign ones were 14.7%. “Last year, 205 new domestically produced medicines entered the market. This is a good result, but work must continue,” he emphasized.
During the meeting, participants also discussed the current status and situation with the introduction of mandatory labeling of veterinary drugs using identification tools.
The event was attended by senators of the Russian Federation, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, as well as professionals and experts in the field.
