According to the deputy director of the Research Institute of Agriculture of the Republic, Lyudmila Radchenko, this will happen despite the loss of part of the crop.
Agrarians of the Republic of Crimea will be able to meet the annual grain demand of the region, despite the partial loss of crops due to spring frosts and drought, said the deputy director of the Research Institute of Agriculture of Crimea, Lyudmila Radchenko.
According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, it is expected that the grain and legume harvest will amount to 1.1 million tons. The annual demand of the Republic of Crimea for grain is approximately 900 thousand tons.
"900 thousand tons will definitely be harvested, since the current yield is about two tons per hectare (primarily barley, wheat harvesting is just beginning). The wheat yield should be higher, as fields based on fallow predecessor provide from 3 to 3.5 tons per hectare. Possibly even 3.6-3.7. Therefore, I am confident that we can count on 900 thousand tons. Despite these circumstances, we will be able to cover our needs," Radchenko shared.
This is facilitated by the presence of areas in the region that have suffered minimal damage from drought and frost. According to the deputy head of the institute, this includes the Leninsky and Belogorsky districts.
A regional emergency situation regime due to crop loss from spring frosts was previously established in the territory of the urban district of Sudak and four districts of Crimea, later the emergency regime was declared in eight districts of the region due to drought.
As Radchenko previously noted, the moisture level in the topsoil in the Republic of Crimea has reached the lowest values in the last 30-40 years. Due to insufficient April rainfall in 2025, the Research Institute of Agriculture of Crimea notes the loss of spring and winter crop sowings. Due to two waves of frosts, the cherry and plum harvest decreased by 15%, potential crop losses due to bad weather in April and May in certain vineyard sections in Crimea and Sevastopol are estimated at up to 80%.
