From the beginning of 2024 until October, about 2.1 million tons of sausage products and similar food products made from meat and poultry were produced in Russia, which is 2.1% more than the previous year. This is reported in a study by the Industry Expertise Center of Rosselkhozbank (RSXH).
Almost half of domestic sausages are produced in the Central Federal District (CFD): in the first 10 months of the previous year, about 1 million tons of products were produced there, accounting for 48.3% of the total volume in the country. The top three leaders also include the Volga region (22.0%) and the Northwestern Federal District (9.1%). Among the leading regions by production volumes are the Vladimir region, Moscow, Moscow region, and the Republic of Mordovia.
The category of boiled sausage products is the most popular among Russians in terms of production volumes. It includes boiled sausages, sausage bread, sausages, cocktail sausages, and bacon sticks. From January to October, domestic producers released approximately 1.4 million tons of such products, increasing the level by 2.1% year over year.
The CFD leads in the production of these products - 691 thousand tons were produced here (48.9% of the total boiled sausage market), and among the regions, the Vladimir region took the first place with a production volume of 259 thousand tons (18.3% of the total volume in this category).
From January to October 2024, about 592 thousand tons of smoked sausage were produced (28.3% of the total volume of sausage products), which is 1.4% more than in the same period of the previous year. The CFD leads in the production of smoked delicacies: almost 50% of smoked sausage is produced here, and the leader among all regions is Moscow.
Fried sausage is becoming increasingly popular in the diet of Russians, showing almost a twofold increase: from January to October 2024, 1.3 thousand tons were produced, which is 46.4% more than the previous year. The CFD also leads in production: 528 tons of products were produced here (40.9% of the total volume of fried sausage), and among regions - the Kaluga region.
"The Russian market for meat sausage products is steadily growing and shows high potential for further development. By the end of 2024, the export volume of sausages and finished meat products may reach 95 thousand tons, which is 16% higher than the previous year. Currently, products are exported to more than 75 countries worldwide. We see how our producers are increasing meat production volumes and expanding the range of sausage products, improving not only recipes but also promotion strategies in domestic and foreign markets," commented Oleg Lityaykin, Managing Director of the Industry Expertise Center of RSXH.
