In April and May of 2025, frosts damaged sugar beet cultivation on an area of over 120 thousand hectares in Russia. This information was disclosed by the leader of the Union of Sugar Producers of the Russian Federation named "Soyuzrossakhar," Andrey Bodin. The greatest losses were recorded in the sowings in the Belgorod and Lipetsk regions. At the same time, the authorities of the Kursk region reported the loss of sugar beet harvest on 2.5 thousand hectares, as reported by the "Izvestia" publication.
According to Bodin, there is a sufficient amount of seeds for replanting, and specialists are currently assessing the damage caused by frosts on the ground. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, "Soyuzrossakhar" does not see a serious threat to the harvest or to the provision of the domestic market. As of May 5, 2025, farmers have already managed to plant just over one million hectares of sugar beet.
