Research in aquaculture: optimization of growing conditions for shrimp and other species in the Black Sea basin.

In the aquarium of the Aquaculture Center, optimal conditions for growing Rosenberg shrimp are being studied, experiments are being conducted with salinity and fresh water. The data obtained will be applied in the aquaculture industry of the South of Russia.

Also under study are the breeding of other species, including crayfish, oysters, and carp fish.

Current activities at the aquaculture complex of the Azov-Black Sea Branch of VNIRO are related to pre-spawning holding of the broodstock of the Rosenberg shrimp. The spawning of the first female broodstock has been successfully completed, and the process of growing the obtained larvae is currently ongoing.

Scientists will conduct research to determine the optimal salinity level for individuals at early stages of development and to establish the best timing and intensity of freshwater input during cultivation. The conditions for experimental cultivation are being bred to be as close as possible to the surrounding environment of fish farms in the region.

The discovered data will be applied at aquaculture enterprises in the southern part of Russia.

Scientists are also engaged in research aimed at improving the breeding processes of other important aquaculture objects in the Azov-Black Sea fishery basin, such as the Australian red claw crayfish, the long-clawed crayfish, the Pacific oyster, and carp fish.
