In the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), Iranian sugar factories produced 1.44 million tons of sugar from sugar beet and sugarcane. This was reported by a representative of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, as reported by Tehran Times.
The head of the sugar factories project at the Ministry of Agriculture, Peiman Hesadi, noted that considering the weather conditions and the amount of rainfall in the current year, it is expected that sugar production will reach approximately the same level. This was reported by IRIB.
"The country's annual consumption is 2.2 million tons of sugar, and the remaining required sugar needs to be imported," explained Hesadi.
