From July to December 2024, the Russian Federation exported 34.257 million tons of major grains and leguminous crops, which is 5.4% less than in the same period of the previous season 2023/24 (36.209 million tons), as confirmed by information from the monitoring of the Russian Grain Union, published on the website of the "Interfax" agency.
Ms. Elena Tyurina, the director of the analytical department of the Russian Grain Union, specified that Russian wheat shipments in the first half of the season increased by 0.7%, reaching 30 million tons. At the same time, barley and corn shipments decreased by 27% (to 2.9 million tons) and 46% (to 1.284 million tons) respectively.
"Based on the preliminary assessment of the annual grain export potential of 56 million tons, including 46 million tons of wheat, as of January 1, 61% of the grain export potential and 65% of the wheat export potential had been shipped. Thus, according to our calculations, the export potential for the second half of the season is 21.7 million tons of grain, of which 16 million tons is wheat," the analyst said.
According to the report, in the first half of the season, Egypt became the main buyer of Russian wheat, receiving 6.348 million tons of grain, which is 48.5% more than last year. Bangladesh ranked second with shipment volume consistent with the first half of the previous season (2.652 million tons). Algeria followed, receiving 2.23 million tons of grain, which is 2.6% more than the previous period.
Wheat shipments to Turkey decreased by 47.5% to 2.137 million tons. Israel ranks fifth, receiving 1.454 million tons of grain, which is 16.8% more than in the first half of the previous season.
