Prices for sugar on that day closed below 18 cents per pound. Over the past month, sugar prices have been under pressure from rising global supplies. On Tuesday, Unica announced that sugar production in the Central-South region of Brazil in the marketing year ending in July increased by 8% compared to the previous year, reaching 20.753 million tonnes.
