Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Oksana Lut, stated that the sowing campaign in Russia is proceeding without disruptions. Over 13 million hectares have been sown with winter crops. This information was announced by Lut during a meeting of the Federation Council.
Oksana Lut emphasized that in the central regions of Russia, sowing is complicated by a lack of moisture in the soil. Nevertheless, the total area for sowing winter crops is planned to be around 20 million hectares, which corresponds to the level of the previous year.
In addition, seasonal work is actively carried out in the fields in Russia. 91% of the areas with grain crops have been harvested, with over 120 million tons of harvest collected.
Despite the large volume of production, domestic consumption of grain crops amounts to about 85-87 million tons. This guarantees full food security. Furthermore, the quality of the new grain harvest is significantly higher. Approximately one-third of the wheat volume belongs to the first and third classes.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture forecasts, a successful result in grain and other crop production is expected in 2024. In particular, 28 million tons of oilseeds, 42 million tons of sugar beets, as well as 7.4 million tons of vegetables and 7.3 million tons of potatoes are planned to be harvested in the organized sector. The harvest of fruits and berries will be around 1.7 million tons, including 1.6 million tons of apples.
Oksana Lut noted that considering the high technological level of agriculture, a good harvest is expected, which will fully meet the needs of the domestic market and maintain a high export potential of both raw materials and processed products.
