According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture of France, a reduction in the production of several crops is expected next year. Among them, rapeseed, production of which will decrease by 7.7% compared to last year. The decline is explained by a sharp decrease in oilseed yield.
According to Bloomberg, the production of soft wheat will also decrease by 15.4% to a level not seen since 2020. The Ministry predicts a decrease in yield to 6.99 tons per hectare, compared to 7.38 tons per hectare last year. The wheat harvesting area will also decrease from 4.75 million hectares in 2023 to 4.24 million hectares this year. At the same time, stable production of durum wheat is expected at 1.3 million tons.
The total barley production is estimated by the ministry to be 8% lower than last year, amounting to 11.29 million tons, including winter barley at 8.02 million tons, a decrease of 17.2%.
The forecast for corn (including seed grain) has also been revised, with an expected increase in planting area to 1.6 million hectares compared to last month's forecast of 1.44 million hectares. The new value is 22% higher than last year and 6% higher than the average of the last 5 years.
Earlier, UFOP warned of a possible rapeseed deficit in the world due to a reduction in planting areas and yield decreases. It is projected that global rapeseed production in 2024/25 will amount to 87.2 million tons, which is 2% less than last year.
