According to the recent assessment by the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), India is expected to harvest approximately 113 million metric tons of wheat in the upcoming 2024/25 season. This is cultivated on an area of around 31.2 million hectares and represents a slight increase compared to the previous season, when 110.5 million metric tons were harvested. As reported by the news portal Feedlot, despite the ban on wheat and wheat product exports, domestic wheat prices have remained above the minimum support price and the price level of the previous year, indicating limited domestic supplies.
Additionally, rice production in India is also expected to increase due to the influence of monsoon rains. An output of around 138 million metric tons of rice is anticipated in the upcoming season, which is 1 million tons more than the previous year.
Corn sowing is ahead of schedule, and grain production is expected to reach 37.5 million metric tons, cultivated on an area of 11 million hectares.
