The Kazakh company "Atameken Agro Trade," part of the holding "Atameken Agro," intends to expand the export of lentils to the Middle East market in order to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on Turkish traders. This was stated by the company's director, Shuhrat Adilov.
"We are actively exploring new markets for the sale of lentils in the Middle East to reduce our dependence on Turkish traders, as they offer not the most favorable conditions due to logistics constraints. If we succeed in penetrating these markets, it will impact our legumes sales and create opportunities to improve our position in the market," he said.
Sh. Adilov noted that at present, the company's main sales markets include several key segments. These include traditional grain markets in Central Asian countries and European countries for the sale of durum wheat, oilseeds, and leguminous crops.
"Furthermore, we see several promising sales growth directions based on current market trends. Primarily, we are looking at the potential Chinese market," emphasized the head of the company "Atameken Agro Trade."
He pointed out that traders highly value the current season. According to him, favorable weather conditions have contributed to a high gross harvest not only of grains but also of legumes and oilseeds.
"Although it is still early to talk about the quality of the produce, as it is finally formed from the third decade of July to the first decade of August, we expect a significant volume of produce. This is a positive factor for us," noted Sh. Adilov.
According to official statistics, Turkey is the main importer of Kazakh lentils. From September 2023 to June 2024, about 114 thousand tons of leguminous crops were shipped (compared to 98.7 thousand tons for a similar period in the previous season). Kazakhstan also exports small batches of lentils to Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and the UAE.
