Farmers in Poland, as well as the public, are mobilizing to help the agricultural areas affected by flooding in the southwest of the country, especially in the Lower Silesian and Opole Voivodeships. The flooding has led to significant losses, including farms that have lost feed, fertilizers, and seed material. Ministers of agriculture and their assistants are also visiting the affected areas to assess the damage and provide support to farmers.
The scale of the devastation caused by the flooding in southwestern Poland is simply incomprehensible. According to a report from the Polish publication Farmer.pl: "The most affected are the southern counties of the Lower Silesian and Opole Voivodeships. However, the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined. It may turn out to be even more serious than it seems at the moment. Many families have lost their property, and the damage inflicted on farms is simply unimaginable. Farmers from different regions of the country are assisting the affected. On social media, people are offering their help to fellow farmers, especially in the form of feed, as there is nothing left to feed the animals in the flooded areas. They ask to bring hay, silage, and straw – anything that those who can help have."
The adverse weather not only destroyed seed material and fertilizers – important and expensive resources but also essential agricultural equipment. Some farmers, where possible, are offering specific support by preparing to bring seeds and donate part of their feed supplies directly to those affected.
Municipalities are providing assistance primarily in the form of clothing, personal hygiene items, blankets, food, and drinking water. Ministers of agriculture are heading to the affected areas and holding meetings with subordinate organizations to assess losses on farms, analyze support possibilities for farmers, and determine the need for water and animal feed.
