Every year in Russia, 10-12 million tons of grain are lost during storage and transportation, which is approximately equal to the annual harvest of the Stavropol Territory. This was reported by Petr Chekmarev, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at a conference entitled "Elevators of Russia - 2025". He noted that there is a lack of modern elevators and grain storage facilities. Chekmarev also pointed out that grain storage facilities do not meet the needs and many of them require modernization, according to Interfax news agency.
The collection of oilseeds may increase from 27-28 million tons to 35 million tons, as they remain more profitable. At the same time, around 1 million hectares of winter crops are lost every year, and this year the situation may be even worse due to weather conditions. According to Chekmarev's forecasts, the grain harvest will be 120 million tons, but with good weather conditions it is possible to reach 125-130 million tons. The Ministry of Agriculture expects a harvest of up to 130 million tons, while preliminary data from Rosstat indicate a harvest of 125 million tons.
